The MÁV Symphony Orchestra is one of the oldest and most traditional professional ensembles in Hungary, which has been a defining player in the domestic and international classical music scene for decades. The Orchestra's management is committed to sustainability and is at the forefront of the performing arts sector by collecting data, taking commitments and measures that are exemplary for both its members and the audience, and working towards more sustainable operations and lower environmental impact.
The goal of the sustainability project carried out in 2025 together with the MN6 Energy Agency team was to provide a comprehensive picture of the greenhouse gas emissions associated with the Orchestra's operations, whether it is the direct energy consumption related to the orchestra's everyday operations, or the emissions related to concerts, audiences or other indirect operations. In addition, we explored the opportunities through which the organization can become more sustainable in the long term. During the survey, we also took into account special factors such as emissions from concertgoers' travel or instrument servicing, or the carbon footprint of foreign tours.
